Contact Lenses

Benefits of wearing Contacts

The main advantage of contact lenses over spectacles is better peripheral vision and less distortion of images. Contacts can give superior vision as there is no air gap between the eye and the corrective lens - this air gap is what causes increased distortion of the image viewed by spectacle wearers. Trying out Contacts

Contact lenses are made of sensitive gel like material called silicon hydrogen. This fragile material is being widely used for reasons such as comfortable to wear, high oxygen permeation and most notably its sponge like ability to absorb water, which means it can to adhere water to its surface to avoid irritation or discomfort to the user.

general advice & Advice to Parents

We recommend that your child must be a minimum age of 12years of age before we can fit them with contact lenses. From 12 to 16 years of age we would normally fit 1 Day disposable contact lenses. 1 Day Disposable contacts are the safest and often most convenient lenses available for this age group.

Useful tips for contact lens care
The following tips apply to all contact lens types:

ALWAYS

  • Wash, rinse and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.
  • Have an up-to-date pair of spectacles for when you need to remove your lenses.
  • Replace the lenses at the interval specified by your optometrist.
  • Have regular check-ups with your optometrist as recommended.
  • Seek professional advice if you are having problems with your contact lenses.
  • Ask yourself these three important questions each day that you wear your lenses:

    Do my eyes look good?
    Do my eyes
    feel good?
    Do I
    see well?

If you cannot answer ‘yes’ to all of these, or you have any other doubts concerning your contact lenses, remove your lenses
immediately and seek the advice of your optometrist.

NEVER

  • Go to bed with a painful red eye - seek advice immediately.
  • Bring any contact lens in contact with tap water.
  • Wet your lenses with saliva.
  • Wear your lenses for swimming (unless you use goggles).
